Laid To Rest

This painting is centered on the feeling of finding comfort in the uncomfortable and the sinking feeling of depression. Through submerging my subject in water wrapped in a blanket I wanted to convey a tension between her peacefulness and the scene's surreality. I created the reference image for this painting by projecting an image of my last painting "The Grieving of Sundown" on my subject. That painting is an image of me, so I wanted to suggest a relationship or association between myself and the subject of my painting. Also, I furthered my exploration into the effect of colored and ephemeral light on my subjects.
